Welcome to Fresh Market Kitchen! We have seen some new faces in our kitchen lately and some returning friends from last summer. It is great to see you all! If you are a newcomer to Fresh Market Kitchen, WELCOME!! and if you are a returning fan, we are so glad to have you back!! We would like to take this moment to express our gratitude for the support and love we receive from each and every one of you. You are amazing, and we would not be here if it were not for you. So thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

We have some exciting things to tell you about…

The first and most exciting thing to Chef Casey is that the Outdoor Market Grill on Saturdays has launched for the summer and is turning into THE place to be on a Saturday afternoon! We have a wonderful outdoor space to watch the world go by while enjoying some delicious Always From Scratch BBQ. We have had a porta-potty delivered for use while you’re spending some time on the four corners in sunny Selkirk and a few places for you to rest and enjoy the outdoor space. We even have some picnic blankets to lend in the kitchen – just let us know you’d like to use one while you are visiting us. We’d love for you to enjoy your stay. Have you had a chance yet to experience our Outdoor Market Grill? Stop by some Saturday and check us out. What are your favourite Saturday treats? Do you come for the flakies or the buttertarts or both?? Maybe you’re loving the slushies? Did you know that we make our own freezies in house?? Why not try a cappuccino or a latte from our Barista, Bianca. We only use locally-roasted Altitude Coffee Roasters’ whole bean coffee. It is the secret behind our delicious caffeinated drinks in the kitchen. The fresh bagels we bring in from the Bagel Oven are worth the drive to Selkirk alone on a Saturday! Come treat yourself. If you ask Chef Casey what her favourite aspect of the Outdoor Market Grill is on a Saturday, she will, of course, tell you firstly it is the great joy and pleasure she feels when creating every single handcrafted dish as well as the opportunity to get out of the unbelievably hot kitchen for an afternoon and enjoy the summer breeze, but secondly that it is her chance to actually SEE you! You can’t imagine (maybe you can??) how strange it has been for Caveman Rob and Chef Casey to launch Fresh Market Kitchen at the cusp of the pandemic last year in March, never actually seeing their customers’ smiling faces but getting to know them over the course of the past 16 months through a muffling mask to finally now being able to actually see their faces as they come from their vehicle to the Outdoor Market Grill. Chef Casey knows your voice from all of the wonderful interactions in the kitchen over the past year and a half and getting to know you and your families. But now???? Being able to actually SEE faces and feel the love in every smile we actually witness, it has actually brought tears to Chef Casey’s eyes. It is such an overwhelming feeling, and we are so very grateful to be able to serve you outside in the open air and rediscover each and every one of you. It is truly our pleasure and honour.

The second exciting tidbit is Sunday Brunch! We are open every Sunday for the summer to make you brunch. We open at 8 for coffee, and brunch is available beginning at 9 AM until 1:30. Reservations are not required, and drop ins are welcome. Check out the Sunday Brunch menu for June/July!

Thursday: CLOSED FOR CANADA DAY this week but normally open 11-6.

This Friday, Saturday and Sunday, we will have some fancies!!! Our fancies are skillfully created by our French Patisserie Chef and are truly deserving of their title, “Fancies.” They are almost too beautiful to eat…ALMOST. This Friday and Saturday, our flagship smoker, Cinderella, is going to have a very busy. Friday we are serving our famous smoked chicken wings! As always, our BBQ is always from scratch and smoked over real cherry wood on premises.  One pound of Steeltown Smokers/Fresh Market Kitchen’s wings = 7-8 full wings (drum and flat intact – we never split our wings apart, preserving all of the natural juice in the meat) tossed in our housemade “Midgett” bbq sauce.

On Saturday this week, our Market Grill is featuring our Fresh Market Kitchen & Steeltown Smokers’ Smokeshack! This is your chance to give our Always From Scratch handcrafted BBQ a try. We prefer low and slow so smoke our pork and beef over real logs of cherry overnight (Thanks to Caveman!!) for a taste like no other. We will have family packs available as well as single meals.

Caveman is looking for an occasional roadie to help set up, tear down and maintain equipment both on premises and at private chef events – please send an email to if you’d like more info.

Pre-orders for our lunches and suppers are NOT REQUIRED BUT ARE ALWAYS RECOMMENDED PLEASE; as you know, we have a zero food-waste policy here in the kitchen, and Chef Casey personally shops for and hand picks every single ingredient for use in our kitchen, buying only what is necessary for that week’s menu and a bit extra in case of last minute orders. But that’s it…when it’s gone, IT IS GONE. To avoid disappointment, please feel free to reserve your dishes early – not only does it ensure you get the meal you are looking for; it also helps with our team meal prep and limit shopping trips as we cook from scratch. No deep fryer, no crock pots and no microwave in our kitchen. Just good old-fashioned home cooking with a professional flare. Family style with style is how we roll!!


Fresh Market Kitchen is pleased to remind you that our BBQ @ Home Packs are available for pickup from our Market Kitchen. We have done all of the work and marinated our succulent Coconut Curry Chicken Skewers (all breast meat, dairy-free and gluten-free) and Chicken Souvlaki Skewers (all breast meat, dairy-free and gluten-free)!  All you have to do is grill them up and enjoy with your family and friends. As always, our Triple B Burgers (beef brisket and naturally smoked bacon, G.F.) and our Classic 1/2 LB Beef patties will also be available! All Things Bagel! – this week, we will only have freshly-frozen bagels available as The Bagel Oven is closed this week. They are moving locations but will be back up and running next week, so we will have fresh bagels next week. In the meantime, we have some freshly frozen available from the freezer (and at a reduced price)!

We are offering single toasted bagels with our European cream cheese – available 11 AM – 2:00 PM Thursday through Saturday. Grab a delicious and quick bite on the go! $3.50 each.

Other Refreshing and Fun Beverages

Birthday Cake and Java Chip Frappuccinos!  A Frappuccino is a blended ice beverage. Refreshing as heck and can be made with milk substitutions such as coconut milk, soy beverage and almond milk (hold the whip)!  Try a Java Chip, made with our housemade coffee ice cubes and chocolate or a birthday cake frappuccino. You MUST try a S’Mores Frappuccino…..AMAZING!!!! We also make our own lemonade and have a really refreshing Passion Tea Lemonade. We are also serving up Slushies (different flavour daily) and freezies made in-house!

Homemade Flakies are currently available Saturdays and Sundays (as supplies last) and are now available in FIVE flavours (Ontario Peach, Quebec Wild Blueberry, Raspberry, Ontario Sour Cherry and our brand new Nutella with chocolate buttons) – these are are generously filled with our housemade vanilla whipped cream with a lovely sprinkling of powdered sugar.  As we never make our whipped cream with animal-based stabilizers thus maintaining a vegetarian food item, these are only offered on a Saturday and Sunday (as supplies last), but we will do our best to allow preorders of Flakies.  Just send us a text with your name and how many of each Flakie you’d like to (289) 426-0845.

As always, our BBQ is always from scratch and smoked over real cherry wood on premises.  We leave the full Ontario jumbo chicken wing intact, never splitting our wings apart, preserving all of the natural juice in the meat).

Pulled Pork Family Pack $30 (includes 1 lb of pulled pork (GF), 4 buns and 1 large side (choice of Buttermilk Dill Smashed Baby Potato Salad (veg/GF), Creamy Coleslaw (veg/GF) or Mediterranean 5-Bean Salad (veg/GF).

Our pulled pork is slow smoked onsite over real cherry wood for 18 hours, hand pulled in our kitchen and bathed in our very own housemade Midgett BBQ sauce.  Real bbq, real flavour and ALWAYS from scratch!!! No MSG!!
